There’s an anger bubbling beneath my skin like a fever
and a stream of infected words threatens to

spill
from
my
lips

but this poison in my mouth is held behind teeth clenched as tight as my fists
because even though this is only way I know how to protect myself,

I don’t want to hurt you.
